THE GREAT CAKE FAQ
When should I book my cake?
Custom event cakes need to be at least 10-14 days advance notice. Peak wedding season is March through October. If your wedding date falls within the peak season, we suggest you book three to six months in advance of your date. If your wedding occurs in the off-season, two to three months is sufficient.
Can I hold the date?
Yes! Your date is secured upon contract signing and 50% deposit. The cake design and all of the details must be finalized and paid in full two weeks prior to your event.
Can I have multiple flavors on different cake tiers or throughout a cupcake display?
Of course! I do recommend only two flavors for wedding cakes. Minimum 12 cupcakes per flavor please.
Can you do custom flavors?
Yes! We welcome custom flavors tailor made to your taste buds. The more creative the better!!
What about my cake topper or decorations?
You can bring or ship the topper/decorations to me in advance which I recommend, or you can have it at the venue on the cake table.
How far do you deliver? Charges?
We deliver as far as necessary to accommodate. We strongly encourage large cakes and specialty cakes be delivered to your event location to ensure there's no issues with transportation. Delivery charges apply. The delivery charge not only covers our time and fuel costs, but set-up as well. Prices range from $30.00 for local deliveries to $60.00+ for distant deliveries.
**If you want to pick the cake up yourself, we have you sign your order form which states that you assume all responsibility for your cake once you take possession. We cannot be responsible for cakes once they leave my home, as we do offer a delivery service which guarantees a perfect cake to arrive at its location.
What time should the cake be delivered?
We recommend that your cake be delivered one hour prior to the start of your event, but this may vary depending on the weather, whether your cake is inside or outside, in the sun, etc.
How much do your cakes cost?
All of our custom cakes are priced out on an individual basis, so we will work with you to figure out exactly what will work for your guest count and budget. Generally, the cost of a custom cake starts with the size, cake flavors, and design work. From there, labor hours are factored in as well. Please feel free to contact me for a quote at 503.583.2227
Can you tint the frosting to any color? What about matching designs from dresses, invitations, etc.?
No problem! Because all cakes are customized, frosting or fondant can be tinted to match nearly any color. We have worked from fabric swatches to invitation samples to paint chips! It’s fun to incorporate a design from some aspect of your wedding, to make it truly yours, so please feel free to bring those ideas to the consultation.
If I want fresh flowers on my cake who provides those and who places them on?
We recommend ordering your cake flowers from your florist to match the rest of the wedding flowers. We can arrange them on your cake (at no extra charge). We are also more than happy to order cake flowers for you at an additional charge.
What is rolled fondant?
Rolled fondant is a sugar dough, which is rolled out, then draped and molded over a cake. This is over a layer of delicious buttercream, since the fondant needs something to adhere to. The result is a smooth, matte finish, which is both elegant and versatile. The moistness of the cake keeps the fondant moist, so it’s still easily cut with a knife.
